Newcastle United eye Weimann - Sunderland Echo

NEWCASTLE United have identified the participants that could propel Alan Pardewas area straight back up the Premier League next season a' if the team stays up. Aston Villa striker Andreas Weimann figures on Newcastleas exchange shortlist. The Tynesiders are tracking Weimannas situation at Villa Park, where talks on a new option for the Austria international have stalled. Weimann a' who has scored 11 objectives for Paul Lambertas battling staff a' has just one single more year left on his contract. And Newcastle are one of the clubs ready to move for Wiemann, who has been often seen by membership scouts this year. Saturdayas competitors Liverpool are supposedly keen on Wiemann, along with Borussia Dortmund and Norwich City. If Villa canat agree a fresh long-term deal with Weimann, the club is going to be forced to cash in on him in the summertime transfer window. Lambert may wish that Wiemann can be asked to remain should its Premier League status be secured by the club. Fourth-bottom Villa are three points behind Newcastle, who are a gain in short supply of the original 40-point standard for top-flight safety. Newcastleas own disappointing domestic year has underlined the requirement for reinforcements, and a striker is a priority for Pardew, who dropped major scorer Demba Ba to Chelsea in January. There will also be outgoings. There remains a question mark over the potential of captain Fabricio Coloccini, the lynchpin of Pardewas support. Coloccini, close to a comeback from a back injury, could have talks over his future at the end of the period. The 31-year-old told the club he wished to come back to his indigenous Argentina in January due to apersonal mattersa. Should Coloccini leave, finding his replacement is going to be Unitedas greatest challenge. But, Newcastle won't allow Coloccini a' needed by Argentinian club San Lorenzo a' walk out of the door for nothing. There may also be departures, with right-back Danny Simpson established to leave when his contract ends. Goalkeeper Steve Harperas 20-year-old association with Newcastle may also stop. H Norwich defense Leon Barnett has been recalled from his loan cause at Championship champions Cardiff. Barnett was set to stay in Wales before end of the strategy but will now strengthen Hughtonas rearguard following a groin problems for ex-Sunderland centre-half Michael Turner.
