Non-league football: Leek Town swoop for former Stoke City midfielder Ryan ... - This is Staffordshire

The former Stoke City Academy prospect, who has also played for Newcastle Town, has signed in time for Leek's trip to third-placed King's Lynn tomorrow.

Manager Lee Casswell said: "Ryan is a good player who can play at left-back, left midfield or in the centre. He is good on the ball, will strengthen us and we are pleased to have signed him."

Leek are looking to build on last Saturday's 2-1 win over Carlton, earned by goals from Matt Bell and Peter Wright, plus a man-of-the-match display from keeper Ben Chapman.

The keeper's outstanding form has prompted Daniel Lloyd-Weston to leave Leek to get regular football at Division One South rivals Market Drayton Town.

The former Port Vale reserve keeper joined Leek last September having also been on the books of West Brom and Cheltenham.

The 31-year-old striker asked for a move after losing his place in the side, but remains a favourite at Harrison Park.

Casswell said: "He has been a great player for Leek Town, but we felt this was the right thing to do in the interests of both parties."

Shaun Hollinshead's side romped to a 4-1 win at Lincoln United on Saturday before Ashley Hill's goal secured a 1-0 home win over promotion-chasing Halesowen on Tuesday.

NEWCASTLE Town boss John Diskin is urging his side to sharpen up in front of goal ahead of tomorrow's trip to Sheffield.

Diskin's side held promotion-chasing King's Lynn to a goalless draw at the Aspire Stadium on Saturday, but Diskin wants more from his side going forward.

He said: "They had a couple of decent chances, but in the last 20 minutes or so we got in some good positions and should have done better.

"We just need to show a bit more quality in the final third; that's not just the front lads, but the wide players and midfielders as well."
