That status and allegiance associated with Mario Gotze is arguably just about the most intriguing storyline of this Champions League final.
Gotze only just finished his fourth season at Borussia Dortmund. But times ago, it was announced that this 20-year-old native of Memmingen will be as you go to Bundesliga rival—and Champions League foe—Bayern Munich come early july. (Bayern's €37 million bid—about £31. 5 million—takes selling point of a release clause inside Gotze's contract, so there's nothing Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp can do. )
Well, Gotze took what some are saying is the easy way to avoid it. Dinged up with a good nagging hamstring injury late with the season, he's not inside lineup for Dortmund.
Nope. Gotze is sitting with the stands at Wembley, wearing neutral black clothing as well as a backward baseball cap. Wonder how his Dortmund teammates feel about that.
